Large French Antique Cast Iron Andirons or Fire Dogs 20"
This pair of French antique cast iron andirons or fire dogs, date to the 19th century. They are large and heavy and each have two spit hooks to the front and bowls to the top. Large, heavy andirons which sat within the fireplace were termed Landiers.
Made from heavy cast iron, they have a naturally aged patina with traces of time-worn texture that add to their character. Originally used to support logs and to spit roast in an open hearth.
